Silence fills the bathroom.

Silence so loud my ears ring.

All I hear is my breathing.

     And then.

The phone pulses. An angry bee buzz.

I look down, and there, to my relief, three words flash on the screen.

I reach in my mouth. All my teeth are still there, though one definitely hurts.

I reach to my back—my clothes haven’t been ripped. There’s no blood.

It’s like the Tooth Fairy was never there at all.

Save for my dad. But he’ll be okay. He’ll be okay.

I caught the Tooth Fairy. Dad’s safe now. We all are.

I’m so relieved I flop back on the tiles and stare up at the ceiling.

I breathe in and out, constantly flicking my tongue over my teeth just to make sure they’re all still there.

Then I raise my phone up.

“I’m done with you,” I whisper.

I don’t think twice.

I delete the DARK[room] app.

I’m done playing. If Rochelle’s mad, fine. She can be mad. She’ll get over it. We’ll find a new game. Our loyal followers will remain loyal or they won’t. It doesn’t matter.

This game is dangerous.

I’m not going to play anymore, and I’m not going to let it play me.
